Responsibilities

First shift position, part-time position, assigned to a mentor for the extent of the program; who will train and develop the individual's skills to become proficient in the following areas:

 

Assembly operations for preparation and installation of engines, hydraulic units & power units on power equipment and self-propelled equipment.

 

Gain knowledge for the usage of a variety of material handling equipment including bridge cranes. hoists, or any other form of handling material, either raw or finished products.

 

Set-up & operate a hydraulic press used for various assembly functions. Duties involve a normal range of hand assembly operations prior to press operations.

 

Assembly, adjusting, and finishing operations on a wide variety of parts, gearboxes, sub-assemblies and assemblies. This function may include sub-assemblies or finished products of a more complex nature, at any station or production line. Assist in the development of assembly practices and procedures.

 

Proper testing of assembled products and make adjustments as required. Tag equipment for disposition or rework.

 

Assembly operations associated with installation of cutterheads, gearboxes, wheel ends, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, engines, and air conditioning, and any other duties prescribed by the build sheet or blue print.

 

Use dial indicators and other checking devices to adhere to manufacturing tolerances.

 

Work from drawings, wiring diagrams, shop orders, specifications & verbal instructions. Responsible for inspection of parts, teamwork, accuracy, inventory control duties as required, total quality, employee involvement, kaizens, and training new operators.

The term of the apprenticeship is 1 to 1 ½ years with an OJL attainment of 2,000 to 2,736 hours, supplemented by the minimum required 520 hours of related instruction.

Qualifications

Must be a student within the Career Pathways Institute of Grand Island Public Schools within the Industrial Technology Academy.
